Brodeur suffers shoulder injury in Kings win

(Reuters) - New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur suffered a right shoulder injury during the first period of the Devils 2-1 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings Thursday.

Brodeur finished the first period but did not return for the start the second.

“I just kind of tweaked my shoulder when I dove down for (a) shot and lost a little strength in it, so I didn’t feel comfortable continuing,” Brodeur told reporters.

“I came in the room and tried to take my equipment off and that kind of was a little tricky.”

While Brodeur expects to travel to Nashville for Saturday’s game against the Predators, the team will determine whether to call up a third goalie Friday.

Back-up goalie Johan Hedberg entered the 1-1 game at the start of the second period and stopped all 16 shots he faced in regulation and overtime, and stopped Anze Kopitar in the shootout to secure the win for New Jersey.
