New York state's senate passes $142 billion budget

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York state’s senate has passed a $142 billion budget, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

State lawmakers agreed on a budget plan late Sunday that includes much-debated reforms to the education system and ethics standards for lawmakers, Governor Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders said in statement at the time.

“This fifth consecutive on-time budget builds upon the progress we are making to revitalize the state’s economy and spend only what taxpayers can afford,” said Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos in a statement on the New York Senate’s website on Tuesday.
