MOSCOW (Reuters) - German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel on Thursday warned about the danger of a new arms race spiral with Russia and underscored the importance of continuing to focus on reducing the number of conventional weapons and maintaining good bilateral ties.
Gabriel said he and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed during their meeting about the need to continue the Normandy format four-way talks on ending violence in eastern Ukraine. Solving that conflict would pave the way to work on further disarmament measures, he said.
The German foreign minister said Germany had no knowledge about reported CIA hacking attacks carried out from the U.S. consulate in Germany. He added that Germany took any kind of influence operations aimed at affecting public opinion very seriously, regardless of their origin.
