OTTAWA (Reuters) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper plans to have Parliament suspended until early March in a move that will allow him to overcome opposition in the Senate and avoid persistent questions over treatment of Afghan detainees.

Harper spokesman Dimitri Soudas said on Wednesday that the Conservative government will present a new Speech from the Throne, on government policy, on March 3, and a new federal budget on March 4.
